This brightly-coloured art installation, created by artist Ugo Rondinone, includes seven towers of boulders that reach up to 30 feet high. Its bold colours are meant to contrast with the stark landscape here in the Mojave Desert – the driest desert in North America – where the piece will remain on display at least through 2018. It’s sited near Jean Dry Lake, which has served as the backdrop for numerous art installations and been a filming location for movies like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
